We are in them. The dog days of summer. It’s hot and humid and we just want to stay cool and dry. Growing up, we did not have central air conditioning in our home until maybe I was in junior high school. We had a wall A/C unit in the living room and my sisters, brother and I would take turns sitting right in front of it. That cool blast of air was also occasionally accompanied by a glass of mango lassi that my mom or dad made for us. Lassi is the Indian version of a smoothie. It’s cool, fruity, and refreshing. I make my own version of this and my son thinks it’s the best treat he has ever had. I hope you will try the recipe and agree 😉
Mango Lassis:
Ingredients
- 1 cup peeled and cubed ripe mangoes
- 1 cup plain yogurt
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup ice
- 1/2 tsp. rose essence
- 1 tbsp. sugar (more or less to taste)
Preparation Instructions
1. Place mango cubes, milk, and yogurt in a blender. Blend until all ingredients are pureed into a smooth mixture.
2. Add ice and rose essence. Blend until ice is completely crushed and well-combined with the mango-yogurt puree. Mixture should resemble a milkshake.
3. Add sugar and mix if needed.
4. Pour into a glass and enjoy!
