What’s more American than a burger hot off the grill on a summer day? Not much. If not a burger, maybe a hot dog. We enjoy tandoori chicken on the grill often over the summer months, but you know what? We like burgers off the grill, too. We have seen so many ways to build a burger: bacon burger, blue cheese burger, southwest burger, the list goes on. So why not have a burger with Indian flavors? And why not have the burger infused with our beloved tandoori spice mix? There’s no reason not to. For those of you who have a gluten intolerance, you will see that these burgers are gluten-free. Bread crumbs not needed. I invite you to try my tandoori spice burgers this season and sizzle up your summer!
Ingredients:
- 1 lb ground turkey
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- 1.5 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp ground turmeric
- ½ tsp paprika
- ½ tsp cayenne pepper
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
Directions:
Mix all of the ingredients together in a mixing bowl. Allow meat mixture to marinate for at least 30 minutes.
Spray grill with non-stick spray. Turn grill on to medium heat.
Form four round patties and place on grill. Cook covered for about 8 minutes.
Flip and continue to cook for another 8 minutes on the other side. Internal temp should reach 165 degrees.
Enjoy on a bun or naan with slices of red onion and Raita (cucumber yogurt sauce, recipe below).
To make Raita:
Ingredients:
- ½ cup plain yogurt
- ½ cup finely diced cucumber (peeled and seeded)
- 1 tbsp. finely chopped cilantro
- ¼ tsp. ground cumin
- ¼ tsp. ground coriander
Directions:
Mix all ingredients together in a bowl. Keep refrigerated until ready to use.

These tandoori turkey burgers were awesome! Turkey burgers are usually kind of blah compared to beef, but these had so much flavor! Just the right amount of heat to give it a kick, but not overpowering. I had all the spices in my pantry (but I need a spice closet instead of a cabinet). Made the sauce as well and homemade naan. This is going in the summer grill rotation!
I am so happy that you liked this recipe! And I am absolutely thrilled that you are wanting to make these burgers through out the summer! We will be doing the same at our home.
Super Easy! My boyfriend loved it! Will definitely make again and again! Thank you!

I loved this the first time I made it using brown sugar but tonight I made it with Stevia not realizing that the ratios are so different. A word to the wise, if using a substitute use a LOT less. We had to throw the whole thing away!
